Such support and encouragement enable and strengthen our efforts to write and speak about the prejudicial attitudes and practices against individuals who are perceived as being 'different.' Butler was active in law in Northern Illinois, as is evidenced by a reference to Scammon (Abraham Lincoln's law partner) in marginalia, and a laid-in envelope dated August 31, 1846 which refers to Libertyville and Lake County, both of Illinois.

"Volume the First, Containing the Seasons," "...Second Containing Liberty, The Castle of Indolence, and Poems On Several Occasions," "...Third Containing Sophonisba, Agamemnon, and Alfred," and "...Fourth Containing Edward and Eleonora, Tancred and Sigismunda, and Coriolanus." Volume 3 bound with the half-title page. Previous owner's name neatly in contemporary ink on the front pastedowns, as well as a few tiny ink stains. The edges of the first and last few leaves of each volume are affected by offsetting (browned) from the leather binding. Very minor foxing scattered throughout the set. A beautifully illustrated edition of this work. Thomson (1700-1748) published his blank-verse poems "Winter" (1726), "Summer" (1727), "Spring" (1728), and "Autumn" (1730). brought together as "The Seasons," which for the first time giving description of nature the leading place, and paving the way for the emotional treatment of nature by the Romantic poets.
