Willets-Burnham, Anita ROUND THE WORLD ON A PENNY. Inscribed and signed by author.
Chicago published by author 1943, Fourth edition Hardcover Signed Good+ condition 272 pages. Illustrated with numerous works by the family, including a hand-colored frontispiece. Decorative hardcover cloth binding is slightly shelfworn, the spine somewhat sunned, and the paper spine label browned and rubbed. The front endpapers are lightly skinned from tape in small areas. A few pages have tiny spots of staining. Often mistaken for an inscription, the following poetic quote which reads "Round the world on a Penny, why not? 'Doing what can't be done in the Glory of Living' is actually printed on the page, as issued by the publisher and is not inscribed. However, this copy is inscribed "To Helen S. Greenebaum - Jan 1945 - [signed] Anita Willets-Burnham," which is followed by "Its not what you can do - But what you do - do - that counts. [initialed] A.W.B.," which is followed by three ink smudges, made into flowers, and the words "mistakes and blots make lovely Forget me nots. Ha! Ha!" A lovely and lengthy authentic inscription, showing clearly the personality of the author.
