RENDELL, RUTH. THE WATER'S LOVELY.
2006 RENDELL, RUTH. THE WATER'S LOVELY. London: Hutchinson, [2006]. First edition. Fine in dust jacket. Weeks went by when Ismay never thought of it at all. Then, it would return in a dream. The dream began in the same way. She and her mother would be climbing the stairs, following Heather's lead through the bedroom to what was on the other side, not a bathroom in the dream but a chamber floored and walled in marble. In the middle of it was a glassy lake. The white thing in the water floated towards her, its face submerged, and her mother said, "Don't look!" The dead man was Ismay's stepfather, Guy. Now, nine years later, she and her sister, Heather, still live in the same house in Clapham. But it had been divided into two apartments. Their mother lived upstairs with her sister, Pamela. The bathroom, where Guy drowned, had disappeared. Ismay works in public relations, and Heather in catering. They never discussed the changes to the house, still less what had happened that August day, but even lives as private as these intertwine with other worlds and other individuals. And, with painful inevitability, the truth will emerge.

BOVA,BEN. THX 1138. STUDIO PRESSBOOK AND PAPERBACK OF THE NOVELIZATION OFGEORGE
1971 [LUCAS,GEORGE]. BOVA, BEN. THX 1138. STUDIO PRESSBOOK AND PAPERBACK OF THE NOVELIZATION OF GEORGE LUCAS'S FIRST FEATURE-LENGTH FILM RELEASED BY WARNER BROTHERS IN 1971. Based on the now famous student short, THX 1138 : 4 EB: ELECTRONIC LABYRINTH that Lucas made in 1965, while studying filmmaking at USC. The 1971 THX 1138 was one of Francis Ford Coppola's early American Zoetrope productions, co-scripted by Lucas and Walter Murch, and directed by Lucas. The chilling story of a rebellious human drone, played by Robert Duvall, in a computer controlled subterranean world of the 25th century, in which men and women are programmed into robot-like subjection through the forced use of mind-soothing drugs and sex is forbidden, and somewhat unlikely with all those mind-soothing drugs and males and females all have shaved heads and wear identical jump suits. The 10 page 11" x 13" pressbook has a striking blow-up of one of the shiny metallic human-like face masks that the security guards wear, which was used on all of the film's posters. The copy is fine and has no fold marks or creases. Laid into the pressbook is an 8" x 10" color photograph of Lucas that is also signed by him. The PBO novelization THX 1138 was published by Paperback Library in 1971, with a color close-up of the masked security guard on the front cover and a photograph of two of the security guards carrying off the shaven-headed Robert Duvall on the back cover. A near fine, unread copy. The pressbook, the photograph, and the paperback novelization:
