Traven a hundred years later, he escaped Europe on the run from the authorities and assumed the new identity of "Charles Sealsfield" (he was born Karl Anton Postl). Facinated by America & Mexico, he invented a new novel form - the ethnographic novel (again there seems to be a parallel with Traven).
