I wish I had the energy to produce the viciousness she imputes to me. As a pariah and a marginal talent, we both know that she needs no help... I was furious with [Dottie Parker] much of the time, particularly when she was living way beyond her means, having lost the right to do so on account of her professional paralysis..."

TRUFFAUT, François. French director of New Wave films. Unsigned A.N., regarding a low-budget American film called Fingers, written for publication in a brochure of the American Film Institute. 1 page, on lined notebook paper, with an uneven lower edge.9" x 6". N.p., ca. 1979.
1932-1984 Framed "'All that is unbelievable remains decorative,' said Jean Cocteau. Each sequence of 'Fingers' is marked by a deliberate and elegant crudeness. "Fingers" is one of those low-budget American films placing a lot of stock in bizarre sexual practices and violence, but what makes it superior to productions of the same genre is that it truly has a style, at once precise and precious. The dryness of the treatment is only too apparent; the sentiments are neither shown nor expressed but we divine them. The camera of J.T. is rigorous. The actors, Hervé Weitel and Tisa Farrow, are admirable. " (With English translation.) Together with a letter from the American Film Institute attesting to the note's authenticity.
