In earnest conversation are a very distinguished looking professional gentleman, a tennis player (in tennis togs with racket in hand) and an entertainer (in this case someone out of the Funkedelics wildest imagination), as well as several other "types". Presumably they are discussing their investments.

Presumably this was done by the publisher for some reason (Macmillan, for example, frequently did this to allow more retail pricing options up to final distribution). Author was a New Yorker writer and was the son of Robert and the father of Peter, a well as the author of The Off-Islanders, the basis for the movie The Russians Are Coming! The Russians Are Coming! A lovely copy of the author's first novel.
