Victor Gollancz London 1930 First First English edition. Translated form the French by C. K. Scott-Moncrieff. Originally composed between 1911 and 1914, this book was about to be printed when World War I broke out. Publication was deferred until 1917, the author correcting the proofs while in a war hospital suffering from severe wounds. In 1925, Bloch revised the entire manuscript and published a definitive edition, from which this translation was made.
