Small archive of materials which document the life and activities of Artha May McConoughey, a native of Evanston, Cook County, Illinois. The collection commences with her European travel diary of 1908-1909, which describes her travels in England, France and Germany, where she remained with her brother Edward, he studying at Berlin University, she studying German, piano and music theory. Artha some four years later becomes active in working for the Loyal Temperance Legion and the Woman's Christian Temperance Legion. The collection includes several manuscript speeches and addresses by McConoughey, which call for Temperance reform, anti-narcotic legislation, and the need for Woman Suffrage as a means to achieve these reforms. There is also an address and annual report in her capacity as Cook County General Secretary of the Loyal Temperance Legion. The collection includes as well later materials from her time as a law student at Northwestern University and numerous photographs and other ephemeral items. The collection includes the following: a.
