Genlis (1746-1830) was "a woman of encyclopaedic information … with a mania for instructing others." She became the governess to the children of the Duchesse de Charles, "teaching them on novel, practical-cum-theoretical lines and writing and producing plays for their benefit." Napoleon paid her to furnish him with letters on literature, politics, etc. American Imprints 10471, locating one copy, additional copies located at LOC and Harvard (the latter lacking the title-page).
