CIVIL WAR Confederate -- Daniel Ruggles Confederate brigadier general who led a corps at Shiloh, later serving under Bragg, Van Dorn, and Joseph E. Johnston. A.L., signed "C.R.," to his wife, lamenting the loss of letters she has sent him, mentioning he has sent her an account of various battles, and bemoaning his lack of recognition by his superiors. 2 pages, 4to. Mexico City, Dec. 8, 1847.
1810-1897 "...They were all very full of detailed battles and stirring events ... The praises bestowed on others where my name was not mentioned. ... [No officer] in the army did more than I have done%u2014or distinguished himself more than I have at Chirumbusco, San Antonio, Moline del Rey, Chapultepec ... to say nothing of former affairs for which I got little [praise] ... Many of those have been praised for what they have not done ... Maj. Scott neglected mentioning me..."
