Weis, G. STOCK RAISING IN THE NORTHWEST 1884.
Evanston, IL Branding Iron Press 1951, First Edition Hardcover Near fine condition Originally published as "Notes Recueillies sur les Elavages d'Animaux dans les Etats de l'Ouest de l'Amerique du Nord" in San Francisco by private French rancher Weis. This 1951 private press printing was made in an edition of 500 copies; this copy un-numbered. Issued without dustjacket. Hardcover decorative binding with minimal shelfwear; pages uncut and unopened. Introduction by Herbert O. Brayer, and illustrated by David T. Vernon. Weis purchased a ranch at Musselshell (Montana) and owned 850 head of cattle by 1881. He visited San Francisco in 1884 and met H.H. Bancroft. Bancroft persuaded Weis to purchase a set of his works, and to contribute in vol 31 "History of Washington, Idaho, and Montana 1845-1889". Weis submitted a 24 page handwritten manuscript, which Bancroft refers to superficially in a footnote. Unfortunately, Bancroft misprinted the production chart at the end of the manuscript. The translated document, in it's entirety, is presented in the form of this book. Herd 2457. Ranching, Ranch.
