Neat owner’s name on endpaper; two pages roughly opened (not near image). A story without words in forty woodcuts by Balthus of a boy (the artist) and his cat. This is the first known work by Balthus. A charming introduction by Rilke, his mother’s lover, with philosophical reflections on the nature of cats, their acquisition and loss. Fine.
