[HAMMETT,DASHIELL]. SHEET MUSIC FROM THE 1930 PARAMOUNT MOVIE "ROADHOUSE NIGHTS."
1930 [HAMMET, DASHILLE]. "ROADHOUSE NIGHTS" SHEET MUSIC. London: Chappell & Co. Ltd., 1930. First edition. Fine in pictorial wrappers. "Roadhouse Nights" was based on Hammett's novel Red Harvest, and was the first movie adaptation of any of his works. British sheet music for the song "It Can't Go On Like This," words by E.Y. Harburg and music by Jay Gorney and sung by Helen Morgan. Photo portrait of Helen Morgan on the red and purple cover. Although a cover note warns that "This edition must not be exported outside the British Isles," it also bears the printed logo and New York City address of Spier and Coslow, music publishers. Of all the Hammett films, Roadhouse Nights is notoriously the most difficult to find posters or other promotional paper from, and there is no record of any such items coming to market in the past ten years. This attractive sheet music from Roadhouse Nights is a most uncommon piece of ephemera.
