n.p., n.d. [published chicago: harcourt brace, 1953] Fascinating passages from Sandburg's anecdotal autobiography, representing an early stage in the preparation of the manuscript for publication. Many are written in Sandburg's notable abbreviated style, and contain hand- written corrections and insertions, deletions (including entire paragraphs), etc. There are several pages pertaining to Sandburg's early use of Swedish as a small boy (pp. 22-24 in the published text); 2 pages on C.W. Williamson's racetrack in Galesburg, which "put Galesburg on the map for horsemen and horse lovers over the whole country ...", passages on Lombard College, Peoria, Illinois, the Sutherland Sisters, and much else of clearly intended for Sandburg's autobiography 4to and small fragments. On 18 different sheets of paper (9 full sheets and 9 smaller fragments), with many autograph corrections, deletions, insertions, editorial markings in pencil and red crayon.
