London: Printed for Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme and Brown, 1820 Sir George Beaumont was a patron of the arts, a landscape painter. His paintings were the source of the plates in Wordsworth's "The White Doe," 1815 "Poems," "Peter Bell" and the 1820 "Miscellaneous Poems." He was also a close friend of Wordsworth's and the poet stayed with the Beaumonts where he wrote several of his poems. Beaumont was also a friend of Johnson, Scott, Davy, Samuel Rogers and Byron. His wife was Lady Margaret Beaumont. Among the collection at Cornell are Wordsworth volumes presented by her as well as a presentation to her First edition with the cancelled state M6 as usually found. 8vo. Without the collective title that was originally supplied so that the "Peter Bell," "The Waggoner" and "Thaksgiving Ode" could be bound together if the purchaser wanted. Green calf gilt by Sotheran, morocco label. Some darkening, short crack and tear to head of spine, labels chipped, erasures, some light spotting, else a very good copy with an inscription for "Miss Paxton with Lady Beaumont's kind regards".
