Mostly popular tunes andballads derived from European compositions, but including at least twopieces of American note: United States Marine March composed and dedicatedto the officers of the Marine Corps by a lady of Charleston, S.C. (4to, 2-pages; Baltimore: John Cole, 1825; OCLC locates three copies: Boston Public, Duke, Virginia) and The Baltimore Centennial March as performed at the celebration of 1832 in honour of the birth of Washington; the music arranged from the opera of Cinderella and dedicated to Col. John Thomas, Chief Marshall (4to, 3- pages; Baltimore: John Cole, 1832; OCLC locates one copy: Maryland Historical Society; part of a lower margin torn away, without affecting text). Nine additional pieces were published by Cole; other publishers include Willig, Firth, Hewitt, Bourne, Riley, DuBois, and Atwill. 4to. Somewhat later half-leather and marbled boards (shellacked), gilt-stamped owner's leather label "M.E.C. Durkin" [Mary Eliza Call Durkin] on upper cover. Many of the pieces are foxed, some heavily.
