Nutt on the limitation page. The story of Barlaam is essentially a retelling of the story of the Buddha as a Christian saint. The present text includes an overview of the various sources for the parables of Barlaam, including the Greek church and several Oriental versions. Also included are the complete "Lyf of Saynte Barlaam" from Caxton's Golden Legend and a chapbook printed in 1783 (the title page is reproduced in facsimile) entitled "The Power of Almighty God, set forth in the Heathen's Conversion; Shewing the Whole Life of Prince Jehosaphat, the Son of King Avenerio of Barma in India."
